The "wag Strap" keeps the Tail Sleeve from falling off
The wag strap keeping the sleeve from falling off. Leave enough slack it it for pup to go #2, but not lift as high up as the back.
What else can the wag strap do?
It can hold the tail still... in case it's bleeding easily,
It can "hide" the tail from the dog or other dogs. If a dog is is tugging on the end of the sleeve...the wag strap can be tightened more to hold the tail next to their hind legs but would require it be loosened or remove at potty time).
Tail popped out or sleeve fell off - The wag strap has too much slack in it. Dog's don't mind this strap and it's very necessary... Please search " fell off" for other causes & solutions to tail fell out.
When your pup wont go #2 dogs need to lift tail up to go #2, if the wag strap is adjusted too tight they'll be stressed! Loosen it a little and get the benefit of a secure fit but you won't need to remove or loosen it at potty times.
If poop gets onto the tail sleeve this means the wag strap is too tight. Your pup needs to lift his/her tail enough that the potty will not get on the tail sleeve. This situation is also very stressful for your pup.
Troubleshooting Wag strap fit -
- Straps too low? And tangle in legs - If this happens use the belt loops on the underside of sleeve near the undertail pad ( NOT the ones 1/3 of the way down the sleeve)
- Straps chaffing on crotch or legs - use the alternate path for the strap where it loops through straps on the sleeve, then both ends go between the hind legs, then the two ends fasten together under your pups chest (use the red belt loop on the underside of the harness) This is a very good alternate path
